There's no town like Eureka

A Victorian spa town built into a hollow, where the streets follow the hills instead of a grid.

Streets that bend with the hills

Few streets meet at a right angle, and there isn't a single stoplight in town.

More than 60 springs

The town grew up around them in the 1880s. Over a dozen are restored and easy to walk to.

The whole town is historic

In 1970, the entire city was listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

A hotel with no upstairs

The Basin Park Hotel is built into the mountainside, so every floor opens at ground level.

A church entered through its bell tower

St. Elizabeth's sits so steeply on the hill that the bell tower is the front door.

An artists' town since 1939

Galleries, a school of the arts, a writers' colony, and opera every summer.

About Lake Lucerne

Lake Lucerne was dammed in the late 1800s, when Eureka Springs drew visitors for its spring water. From the 1920s it was a summer resort with cottages, a lodge, a dance pavilion, and a nine-hole golf course.

The resort closed in the 1970s and the land around the lake became a quiet residential neighborhood in the county, a short drive from the shops and galleries on Spring and Main Streets.
